Five Simple Ways To Get That Summer Glow

summer glow bajezen

It is officially summer. Well, to be honest, it is always summer here in Barbados. There are no seasons unless you count the hurricane season as a season. Around the months of June until August it just gets hotter. I mean so hot you just want to lie on the beach with a cocktail hot.
Today I decided to treat myself head to toe. My inner goddess is just screaming for her glow to be refreshed. During these hot months, we typically show a little more skin, cut loose and let’s be honest the sun takes a toll on our skin and our bodies.
Here are a few simple recipes you can use to get your glow up this summer.

Total hydration for that all over glow.

When it gets hot ,¬† Hydrate. Hydrate. Hydrate. Nothing saps your energy and leaves you feeling as dull and listless as a dried coconut like lack of water. Infused waters are indeed nothing new. My go-to is lemon water. Lately, I love lemon and orange . It kind of reminds me of lemonade without the sweetness. If you do get bored with this combo you can always add some chia seeds, watermelon, mint anything that gives it a bit of a twist and can excite your palate a bit. Cut your fruits up and leave them with water in the fridge for four hours or overnight. Mix it up. Spice it up. Combine fruits and veggies whatever suits your fancy. Hydration is key to keep your body functioning at its peak. Since I am an island dweller I also love a good tall glass of coconut water ūüôā

Am I the only one that has a love affair with coconut oil?
I used sea salt as I love the texture of it to slough off those dead skin cells. It also is such a great detoxifier. The result: baby soft hands and feet. Smooth and inviting.

Pick Me Up Body Scrub

I do not know about you guys but just the smell of coffee gets me fired up. I think I may be an addict. Who really can go wrong with coffee in your cup and coffee in your shower. Coffee is not only a pick me up but it’s great for dry skin, cellulite and stretch marks. It will keep your bum perfectly polished for all of those hot summer bikini sessions. It also smells and feels great too. I love brown sugar for its coarser texture but the mixture is really up to you. You can add or subtract ingredients depending on your personal preference.

This is the recipe I use every Sunday as I lounge around with my cup of coffee. I have been using the Aztec healing clay for years now and I just love the results it gives. if you have not heard about it by now get yourself a jar. You won’t be disappointed. I just love the pulsing feeling it gives. I think I can literally feel it dragging the goop out of my pores.

diy all over body scrub bajezen

I came up with this simple multipurpose scrub while I was making my morning coffee. It honestly is quite difficult to find affordable quality anything in Barbados. I made this one for my hands they were looking a bit rough. It is so easy anyone can do it! Best of all it is made from ingredients that you can find right in your cupboard.

For the small batch, I used
Two tbsps. sugar
Two tbsps. of Epsom salts
Two tbsps. of ground coffee
You can use coconut oil or olive oil
And a few drops of your favourite essential oil.  I used orange.
I used the massage oil pictured as it was what I had on hand.

You can make it gritty or moister that would depend on how you like your scrubs.

I left my hands feeling smooth and refreshed. You can also use it for your feet or as a body scrub. 6 Everyday Products For A More Beautiful You

These days everyone is looking to make the most out of their money. You don’t need to spend a ton of money to look and feel great. For us, beauty babes on a budget here are my fave products that you can find right in your kitchen. Maybe you can do a facial while you have a cup or cook to save time. Yay! for multitasking.

Epsom salts:

This is probably the cheapest most beneficial product you can use.It retails for under 5 Bds .Epsom salts can cleanse you from the inside out. Here in Barbados, the older folks used it for a good “purge” or detox. ¬†use it as a relaxing bath soak, a body scrub and foot scrub along with your favourite essential oil.It leaves you feeling invigorated and significantly less stressed.P1240047-640x500

Brown sugar:

My favourite way to use sugar is to bake with it of course :)) I prefer the larger grains and they make an excellent exfoliant. Brown sugar coupled with coconut oil and vanilla can make an excellent all over body scrub. It will leave you smelling and feeling as warm and toasty as freshly baked goods.Yummy !

brownsugar

Baking Soda:

Not the most glamorous looking or smelling of the list but who can beat cheap and effective. It can be used to :

Clarify your hair, Whiten your teeth, mixed with water for a deep cleansing face and body scrub. Use it as deodorant a nail scrub and it also makes a rejuvenating foot soak.

Apple cider vinegar:

This one is extremely popular you just have to google it. This product aids in weight loss, reduction in foot odour, lowers blood sugar, clarifies hair as a pre-poo treatment (or mix it with your shampoo). I mix it with my Bentonite clay for a deep cleaning mask (which reminds me I need a facial )  It can also be used a facial toner, to treat razor bumps and bug bites. Just add water.

Coffee:

Coffee is my pick me up, the smell the taste the warmth.Oooh, come to mama! I have used leftover coffee grounds along with brown sugar and coconut oil as a body scrubs. Articles have stated that coffee can reduce cellulite.Who says coffee is bad for you?

Green tea:

I have to admit I was never a tea lover but I  developed a bond like no other during my pregnancy. I drank it, I slathered it on. It was a staple in my diet and beauty routine. It is a fat burning, an antioxidant-filled gem of a product. I used the leftover tea bags in my scrubs, steeped them and used it as a facial toner. The best part is you can combine any of the products on this list to come u with your own formulas to cater to your specific needs.

Beauty on a budget : Activated charcoal

diy beauty .. activated charcoal bajezen.blog

Anyone that knows me knows I love a good bit of pampering. I really shine when I am looking my best and I never hesitate when it involves trying new beauty products . Natural is the way for me¬†ūüėܬ†not only is it more cost effective to make your own products; it helps a lot when you have sensitive skin. I can’t tell you how many times I have bought something that caused me to break out and I ended up having to toss a barely used tube.

That clearly does not cut it when you are on a budget #beautyonabudget is where it’s at for me right now. I read up about activated charcoal so I decided to give it try . Bentonite clay is my bff¬†. Like dust from the heavens. My oily skin loves it. The Shea butter is for my hair I usually whip that with lavender and coconut oil, castor and jojoba can work as well. Any oil you choose actually. It whips up so silky smooth. I use it to seal my ends which are bone dry esp in the summer.
The most popular charcoal mask seems to be a mixture of the coal, clay , water and apple cider vinegar. All my products were bought on eBay .

The clay sells out pretty fast. Amazon also sells it as well. The soap is from Walmart . yesterday I whipped up a bit of the mask recipe listed above . I am now a fan! It had my skin so smooth and less oily (so far so good ) no breakouts to report  I am a happy camper. The vitamin E cream listed below is my favorite all-purpose moisturizer. I use it for my face my hands you name it. Not only is it reasonably priced it is lightweight and hydrates for hours. It retails for about $4 at Walmart (two bottles for the price of one)activated charcoal bajezenvitamin e bajezen

At home spa day

One of the few things that cheers anyone up is a bit of pampering. Lately, I have been into all sorts of natural diy beauty and aromatherapy.

First I made a body scrub inspired by savvy naturalista ‚Äės blog she has some awesome recipes on there. I made a green tea sugar scrub and added a few drops of eucalyptus and peppermint oil.

Ingredients

White sugar

Green tea bags about four depends on the amt you make

Coconut oil

Peppermint and eucalyptus or whatever essential oil you choose below is the end result

Next the facial this clay gives my skin life

Bentonite clay and apple cider vinegar. Works miracles I even put it on my feet ÔŅľ

After washing off I just follow up with a green tea astringent. Steeped green tea and water. I store that in the fridge. It’s always so refreshing.

And the final treatment. An essential oil infused pedicure. Products pictured below. What a relaxing and refreshing way to take care of yourself.
