The Empty Nest

The Empty Nest baje

Memories of the pitter patter of little feet
A cocktail of laughter and tears, the breakups, the makeups
Building a home is never an easy job
It takes hard work married with creativity
You want to keep your little  ones safely tucked under your wings
With a huge dose of faith and pangs of anxiety, you let them go
Knowing one day they would grow up to do brave and marvelous things
Your will was always tested but you refused to let them stray
The baby bird now grown will always be a baby in her mother’s eyes
You blink and in instant, your little ones have flown away
It’s quiet now, maybe too quiet
The proud mother hen smiles, knowing she did her best
We can only pray to keep them protected, to raise them well and hopefully they will live a good life beyond the nest

5 reasons Why Mothers Make Good Managers

When you become a mother you sign a life long contract. You are bound by love to this precious little human. There are no off days, no sick leave and no vacations. Some days are chaotic, others pass like a breeze. In the early years, you are lucky if you manage a decent shower and a couple of hours sleep. Despite all of the up and downs, there is one wonderful constant that is: love. This idea came to me as I was chasing the toddler around the living room .(no I did not write it while I was running . I wish I was that talented . ) Here are five reasons why I think mommies make good managers:

reasons why mothers would make good managers

A Positive Attitude

It takes a good deal of positivity to get through some days. Patience is a virtue that is taught when you are a mother .Especially when they yell mummy for the millionth time, or you have to watch the same show over and over 😊 Then they are the tantrums, the spills. What gets us through is having a good laugh at our little rascals. Pick up dust off and move on to the next day. Each day brings a new lesson.

We can Multitask

Any good manager is never set in their ways. There are days you will plan . Have your schedule on point and of course having children throws the schedule into a tail spin. You need a great deal of flexibility and I mean that in both ways mentally and physically.Always expect the unexpected. Us mothers must always have a contingency plan . We adapt and adjust according to the circumstances. We try multiple things to see what works ( this is especially valuable when trying to figure out feeding schedules and what they like to eat).Always having to think on our feet; we know how to work under pressure and come up with new ideas in a jiffy.

We know The Value of Team Work

Any mother knows the value of having a good support system .Especially in the beginning or what I called the start-up phase. There is so much to learn and so much to do. It can become thoroughly overwhelming.Being surrounded by strong and reliable people is a blessing. Those who have more than one child know the value of having the older ones help out with chores and other duties to ensure the environment is less chaotic .Delegation is key . We would love to do it all ourselves but we all know that is not possible unless you want to be stressed out.

Listening and Making Good Decisions

A mother is the protector . She will fiercely protect her family . They after all her greatest asset. She does what it takes to provide for her family . She guarantees that her family is respected, cared for and always looks out for their best interests . We listen and respond to the needs of everyone.

We have to make some unpopular decisions sometimes. It’s all for the greater good. No, you can not have a bag of cookies for lunch. Hyperactivity and diabetes are not a good combo.  I think as a mother; I possess all the qualities of a good manager. We have a lot to deal with. Chores, mix-ups, mishaps, and stubbornness. At the end of the day, we handle it all the best way we can and we do it all with love .

Conception to Delivery

Getting pregnant is the ”fun ” and easy part for some

You know what really intimidates you? The delivery

I listened to the tales of those who had been in labour before

They all make it sound so scary

I was not daunted by this monumental task

I prepared for it much like an athlete prepares for a marathon

Daily yoga, exercise, meditation and several cups of red raspberry tea

I was determined not to let fear get the best of me

It was not the typical pregnancy

I always love to do everything uniquely

Induction was what the doctor recommended because of preeclampsia

It was a beautiful full moon night

When the waves of discomfort first hit me

I remember pacing and deep breaths for  distraction

Somehow I think I channelled Wonder Woman

I would not let the pain phase me

One last big push, and a cry and there she was

My beautiful little baby

As women, we are the creators, the vessels of the Universe

Built to handle any delivery.

My six favorite sites for baby food recipes

six favorite sites for baby food bajezen

Baby weaning for me was a most exciting and sometimes frustrating process. I knew I would prefer the little one to have fresh, healthy and nutritious meals, so I decided to make them myself.

I honestly had no idea where to start so, of course, I took to google. I love to cook so for me this was a new adventure. For those who worry it may be too time-consuming, it really isn’t esp when you make big batches and pop them in the freezer. All you really need in the initial stages is a blender and an oven things you would typically have.

I did not purchase any of those fancy baby food makers but you can if you choose to. I like to keep it simple and budget friendly.

These are my top six favourite websites for baby food recipes. Let me be honest I ended up even adding some of these to my own diet. They taste great and also have encouraged me to eat healthier myself.

Babyfoode.comHer tagline is adventurous recipes for babies and toddlers. Her website is easy to navigate. There are a wide variety of purée recipes for babies and toddlers. I love the weird and yet awesome combos and so does my daughter. This site is awesome sauce. . This website offers a free mini Ebook to get you started. Recipes are broken down into categories by food types. love their meal planners. Some of the recipes were too complex for my tastes so I stuck to the simpler ones. Planners are broken down by age and organized by week for the month. Breakfast, lunch and dinner ideas you name it. There are even baked treats on here. So far the pumpkin risotto is our favorite. . If you are willing to give more complex dishes a try this is the site for you. . I think everyone knows about this one. Probably everyone’s fave. Expert advice and a variety of recipes. What more could a mum ask for?

I am no expert but I recommend starting with the basics fruits, vegetables, and cereals that are readily available and also cost-effective. Just a few suggestions :

Bananas    and Apples
Sweet potatoes
Rolled oats
Peaches (I use canned )

Mothers Day

mothers day thoughts

You will never appreciate the true value of sleep until you become a mother. I have learned a lot this year.Patience … that is a work in progress. I have never been a patient person but with a baby, you have to be.

Showers went through the window, eating a full meal sometimes did. I don’t know how I got through those partly sleepless nights but I did. Being a mother teaches you strength and resiliency. Some days, to be honest, I felt like I was losing it. Love is a crazy thing tho. Some days are a mish-mash of crazy antics and as tired as I am I manage to smile and feel my heart burst as I see that sweet face. I have to say I was I didn’t gain that much weight.

I still do have a little belly pouch though. If I  manage to do five minutes exercise I consider myself fit. Trying to find a routine that works or somewhat of a routine. I walk to work sorta there is a commute between buses that’s my exercise for now. What’s important at the end of the day is that she feels loved and safe. It’s trying to find a balance between work, mummy duties and time for yourself. Thankfully there are no rules on how to live life and despite what social media portrays nothing is perfect. We are all just trying to do the best we can each day. Mothers are truly a blessing. It takes hard work, dedication, and a little madness to be a mother. Happy Mother’s Day 💜😬😀
