My Five Oyin Handmade Hair Must Haves

Flowers (1).png

I first discovered Oyin Handmade in 2012. Don’t ask me how. I can not remember that far back. (mom’s brain ) . I have a bit of an online shopping addiction especially when I am looking for hair products.

My hair has a drinking problem. It’s thirsty and it gets dry so fast especially when it is hot and humid. The frizz is unreal and I start to resemble a chia pet. Raise your hand if you are a natural haired lady and you can relate.

Their all natural promo had me hooked from day one . It has been a long-lasting relationship . It probably has lasted longer than most of my actual relationships but that is a story for another post .

Oyin Handmade does not only sell hair products they cater to the body, mind and soul. They feature products for babies, personal hygiene, some really cool t-shirts and books as well.

I think they have something to cater to everyone; whether you have natural hair or not.  The products are cruelty-free and others are also vegan.Although they no longer ship to Barbados, I still make sure I get my product fix.

Thank God for  US mailboxes and relatives who travel. One plus is that they last a good few months. They are affordable, smell great, are all natural and they work really well. Can you tell that I am an avid fan ??

After I have read many articles and done a few quizzes and have determined that I have 4 C hair.

These are my five must-haves. You can give them a try to see if they become some of your staples as well.

The big chop : It really isn’t that scary

my big chop story bajezen.blog

It’s throwback Thursday or what I am going to call big chop Thursday.Today I am flashing back to when I chopped off my hair. It was almost four years ago. WOW, time flies.

Most naturals have heard of the term the “big chop”. It is a pretty scary process for most women as cutting off your hair is kind of a daunting experience. You wonder is it going to suit me? Let’s be honest most concepts of beauty identify with long flowing hair.

I remember the day I decided to cut off all my processed ends and go natural. It was honestly quite liberating. I find embracing your true self and owning who you are usually leads to some of the most freeing thoughts and emotions. No, it is not just hair. It is a beautiful crown that lets you show the world who you are.  It lets you radiate your inner beauty.

Before you decide to take the leap make sure you do your research. How do you intend to wear your hair? Or you going to wear wigs and weaves or a tiny fro ? Are you going to add a pop of colour the possibilities are endless ? You can either have a diy at home or go to a hairdresser who can hook you up with cute new  do.

What is the big chop?

I define it as cutting off your chemically treated hair to return to your roots i.e to reveal and embrace the natural texture of your hair.  I prefer this method to simply transitioning (growing out the chemically treated hair ) for these reasons :

Instant results. I have zero patience so the idea of waiting for the hair to grow out and having to deal with different textures of hair i.e the straight ends and the curly roots was not appealing at all to me.

Easy hair care. Short hair really can give you a sexy confidence boost. It is so easy to care for. The thought of having a new do was so exciting to me.

No style foul ups . not having to worry about hair flops and humidity also was a plus. Don’t you hate it when you get your hair all done up and the weather just does not co-operate?

Now I am not saying that this process is an easy one. Who here has become a product junkie at least once in their life? It is really about figuring out your individual needs and what works for your specific hair type because all of our crowns are unique.

What I recommend is that you find a good natural shampoo and conditioner and a great detangler as well. Make sure your hair stays moisturised extreme dryness can lead to breakage . Also, make sure you have a satin headscarf for when you sleep. These are the basics . Just embrace the journey and have fun with it . Natural hair is so versatile the possibilities are endless . At the end of the day, we all just want healthy hair that is the goal of all of us natural queens .

Talk to me natural ladies

Natural hair product review Ogx shea soft and smooth

natural hair ogx review bajezen

Any natural haired girl at some point I believe has been a product junkie. About four years ago after I lost my job, I also decided to shed my hair. It was dry damaged and all around a straw-like mess. The scarecrows would have been jealous. So I chopped it all off and so the natural hair journey began. My hair is thick, stubborn and as dry as the Sahara. I decided to give this product really because of the shea butter. I find my hair does great with butters.

The product retails for $5.74 at Walmart. The product is silicone free and not tested on animals. It also has some of my fave ingredients like shea butter and coconut oil. I mean coconut oil is the cure to all life problems, isn’t it? Lol . The smell reminds me of a vanilla ice cream. Yummy . It is very lightweight. It definitely left my hair moisturized and not weighed down. The great thing about this product is that it has multiple uses. I used it as a deep treatment and a leave in. It made my hair very easy to detangle and it can be used as a skin moisturizer for all you ladies with dry skin. I have oily skin but my hands are usually a bit dry. It left my hands well moisturized and smelling oh so good. I did a twist out a week after I used the product I must say I  like how it looked! My only issue with most products is that my hair drinks them all.I mean dime size is usually half the container.😂 If you

are looking for a multi-purpose product this is one to give a try. Even my frizz was reduced not totally but it’s usually much more pronounced. This one gets a thumbs up from me 😃 Continue reading “Natural hair product review Ogx shea soft and smooth”
