What have you been speaking into your life? It is already a new month. Welcome May Five months in the year already; that time just flew by. What do you plan to manifest this month? No time like the present to reexamine your goals and aspirations. Are you advancing boldly towards your dreams or do you remain stuck in the same patterns? It is easy to say go after your dreams, it is easy to visualize and conceptualize but taking action that is when things really get difficult.
Past failures and disappointments often times still scream at us to stay safe to stay in that place that we feel comfortable; even though that place is not even remotely benefit us. What if you had all of the things that you wished for today would you truly be happy? We are ever changing we are dynamic and nothing stays the same for long. The best we can do is enjoy the season that we are in and believe that we are going to have everything that our heart desires.
It has been one of that funky energy sort of days. I know most people have a love-hate relationship with Mondays; as long as you have the privilege of breath it makes no sense hating the day, a minute or even a second of your very precious existence. Easier said than done sometimes.
If you are currently struggling with an issue that you believe is insurmountable or you are going through something that you think no one else has just know this: You are never alone. Affirm it: I got this. I can and I will make it. Try your best to fight the funk. Even if it is something as simple as writing a note, reading or speaking something positive or reaching out to a friend.
Maybe the year started off rocky, maybe it is not going how you have planned. Take the good points and let this be the last month that you doubt your abilities, your potential, your worth. Just because it has not manifested yet that does not mean it is not coming. It’s not a matter of if it MAY happen. Start affirming with conviction it WILL and CAN HAPPEN.
This month let’s kick doubt, worry and fear to the curb. Stop saying it May happen and start believing it will. It may be difficult it may seem impossible but it always gets done. Stop saying it may happen and start saying it will You need to own it, claim it, affirm it Your words have such immense power Replace it may with it will DO your best to fulfill your desires Just keep watering those desires with the fragrant words of success Through it, all keep affirming, keep believing keep doing your best One day you will have it all and look back and rejoice that you made it through every test.
At the beginning of the year, I embarked on a 30-day yoga challenge entitled Dedicate and hosted by Yoga With Adriene. Well, I stuck to it and I completed every single downward dog and even those moves that tested my patience balance and flexibility. It was just supposed to be yoga but it turned out to be a total mind-body experience. I felt stronger and more balanced than I have in a very long time. It is not about mastering the pose as Adriene says it is about finding what feels good. Isn’t that what life is about? The ups and downs the trials and errors. Ultimately we go through everything to get to a place that feels like home and live a life that we love. Here are three life lessons or realizations I had during my 30 days of yoga.
DON’T FORCE – FLOW
We all have had things that we plan, pour all of our efforts into and despite our best attempt at perfection, life happens and it basically goes in whatever direction it wants to. I have had moments where I have tried to nail a pose and fall flat on my ass. The obvious reaction would be to get pissed but all I did was laugh it off and go again. Simply put, you are supposed to get back up. Your pose is not supposed to look like your partner, your neighbors or Sally down the street. Just because you fall it does not make you a failure. It makes no sense trying to accomplish anything by force. If something is not working adjust to accommodate the pose (circumstance). It is useless to fight the flow and end up hurting yourself in the process. If anything yoga teaches you perseverance and the value of knowing what fits you. Do not fear looking awkward or be scared to do it your own way. Your life =your unique flow.
Life is about experiencing joy. DISCOVER WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD
It seems pretty convenient for us to dwell on the mishaps and the fuck-ups and the what could have been. Often times we cling to places or people that we have outgrown. We repeatedly keep trying things that we know deep down have absolutely no benefit to our mind, bodies or souls. Do you want to go through life being sad sack Susie or amazing Amanda? You know the type of person who is willing to put in the work and make your life better and discover what makes you absolutely tingle with delight. We can berate ourselves, belittle our efforts and become our own worst enemy or worse yet work and give until we are at the brink of exhaustion or burnout. Yoga has reinforced the importance of not putting myself in positions that are detrimental to my well being, and even if you do there is always a way back to recovery. We really should focus on and revel in the things that make us feel sweet. The things that make us feel beautiful and worthy and bubbly. You know those things that give you that extra oomph even on the days when you feel more like a dud and less like a goddess. It does not have to be anything grandiose. We tend to get caught up in doing the awe-inspiring social media worthy stuff we lose sight of how the simplest of things can ignite bliss. Finding what feels good is knowing that even when things are difficult and chaotic you can discover ways to center yourself and realize that whatever you are experiencing is just temporary. Look for ways to as the song says to accentuate the positive. ( tell me you didn’t just break out into song reading that, I did 🙂 ) There are days when you will feel defeated, frustrated and downright disgusted but know this, you do not have to dwell there.
Don’t forget to BREATHE.
Taking a breath is such a blessing. It means we are alive, yet so often we take these limited breaths we have been given for granted. In yoga, as in life, we need our breath to guide us through those difficult moments. Those of us who suffer from anxiety can attest to how just simply breathing can make a significant difference between going from a place of nervousness to calm. Don’t get bogged down by the overwhelm of to-do lists and the ridiculous and impossible pressure of having to get everything right. Take time for yourself, take time to breathe, to make space. Breathe, release and let go of the tension. Do it one time, do it several times just do whatever it takes to get you to a place of serenity.
It is now month number five . Day 121 of 365. How are you feeling? Hopefully, you are still as optimistic as when this year began. Know that you can dedicate time to yourself no matter how ”busy ” you are. Time to simply breathe, take a break or start over. Fresh starts are everyday sort of thing, an every minute kind of thing. Dedicate your efforts to creating the life that you truly want. Yoga is not all about striking the perfect pose. Life is not about filters and capturing only those moments in which we shine or appear to. We all want to do and be our best but there is not a damn thing wrong with accepting your imperfections and your so-called mess. It does not matter what your pose looks like to anyone else as long as you are happy. You are and will always be your most meaningful and longest commitment.
I can honestly say that October has been quite a bittersweet month for me. It started with birthday celebrations for myself and one of my fave co-workers; that was definitely the high point. It also has been ripe with financial mishaps, tons of work stress and various other happenings that would make a really juicy telenovela…Life.
Let’s just say that I have not been my most vibrant, positive self. I am often disappointed that I am not Wonder Woman and as a result, I can’t fix all the problems of the world. Is that a trait of all mothers or just my overly obsessive Scorpio moon tendencies? (p.s I am an astrology nut) . She is a badass, she has it all handled. I do on most days; on others as my nearest and dearest would agree I am a mess. We all are in some way, aren’t we? I openly embrace my messy; it is what makes us unique.
I found myself in desperate need of a spiritual pick me up and the Universe answered. Lucy Smith, a personal development coach and owner of Succeed Now reached out to me and encouraged me to sign up for her 5-day email challenge Take Control and Feel Free. I think she sent it two weeks ago. Hey, I still procrastinate. Procrastination another one of my messy traits. It is a work in progress. I decided to share this with you because I love spreading good vibes and you like me may be tired, stressed or just need a little boost. Hopefully, at the end of the challenge, you will get your mojo back.
Rediscovering Gratitude- Day One
Gratitude is such a simple and often overlooked concept. We seem to find it easier to focus on the drama and all that is going wrong; instead of just simply giving thanks for the good stuff. Trust me, even when everything appears to be shit there is always some tiny spark of light somewhere . You just have to look. I created a gratitude jar because I love anything simple and crafty. I found an old mason jar in the kitchen cupboard. I decorated it with a few stickers and started On October 30th. I plan to write one thing I am grateful for every day until the end of the year. I also incorporated day 2 of the 20 Day mental health challenge which asked us to journal 10 things we are grateful for and I dropped those in the jar as well .i find myself complaining a lot lately. I saw this as the perfect opportunity to shift focus to all the good things I have and all of the awesome people I am surrounded by.
Giving Your Words power by using I am affirmations- Day Two
The words you speak shape your life. How do you perceive yourself? What are your strengths? Do you believe that you are fabulous and capable of any and everything you desire? Day two encouraged me to envision and reinforce all the things I am and that I want to become. I used this as an opportunity to redefine my purpose and to celebrate the beauty of being a flawless yet divine being. It is a basic principle of life what you say and think you eventually become. We are often so discouraged and frustrated by the events of life we forget our power. Being the former art student that I am I took out my sketchbook and used this one as an excuse to draw. I pretty much wrote whatever came to mind. Lucy asked us to draft 10 affirmations and here are mine.
I AM : *abundantly blessed * loving and accepting of all of my flaws * a work in progress. Life was never meant to be perfect only to be enjoyed * healthy and vibrant * deserving of all the good things that life has to offer * determined to achieve all my goals * creating a life that I love *am strong and focused * open and accepting to change *successful *love and appreciate me
Mediation Is The Medication- Day Three
Mediation has been a part of my daily routine for approximately three years now. It is one of my favourite tools to calm the crazy I got started with and still am in love with guided meditations. Guided meditations are probably the only time that I can follow instructions or appreciate someone telling me what to do. Building Confidence- Day Four
Learn to love and appreciate your abilities; that is the meaning of confidence. We all doubt ourselves and even the most solid and grounded of us have those moments where we feel less than confident. Lucy suggested visualizing every day and I totally endorse that. Visualize yourself as confident and living the life you desire. Visualizing helps me stay focused on my goals even when circumstances are less than ideal.
Crafting A Morning Routine- Day Five
Start the day on a positive note so that whatever transpires throughout the day can not really phase you. Wake up and do something you love, think happy thoughts. Listen to something that stirs your very soul. Get moving. Pray. Meditate. Make love. Whatever gets you feeling in touch with your soul. I long for a morning routine that does not involve me cursing my alarm and wishing it was Saturday. The morning routine that I strive for is a ten min meditation, ten minutes of yoga and listening to a ten-minute motivational track. For days when life does not go as planned; I downloaded some affirmation tracks on my phone to listen to during my walk to work. I find that at least one or a combination of these gets me in the right frame of mind to start the day.
This challenge was a breath of fresh air. The main thing that it taught me is that I have to be consistent. The journey to inner peace and balance is a continuous one and although life can get tricky we must continue to do the things that bring us joy and spark our spirits. Hi there lovelies, Welcome to another instalment of the Sunday Soul Food Series. I don’t know about you guys but the past two months have been one emotional roller coaster ride. I blame the full moon and new moon being In Cancer. They are some deep and brooding souls. I have lost count of all of the times I have literally said I can’t this month. Then common sense kicked in and I realised whatever I speak will manifest. If I think I can’t then guess what I want . Have you guys ever felt that way like you just can’t deal with all of the ”stuff ” that life throws at you sometimes? Everything becomes so difficult and burdensome and a downright chore. You start to develop a defeatist attitude like maybe I should just lie here and not complete another damn thing. When you start to feel this way just consider these four thoughts before you start to utter another negative word or have another woe is me thought.
It never is as hopeless as you think.
How do you react when faced with difficulties will always be the determinant of your level of satisfaction or success. We all have struggles, setbacks, hiccups. Think about it. Was there ever anything you ever went through that you did not grow through? The bad break up, the job loss, paying off those bills. It sometimes feels like it is taking a century but at the end of the day the situation does change and you overcome it. Have you ever been so damaged by anything that you went through that you did not survive another day? If you are reading this then chances are the answer is a bit fat NO. The next time you are feeling that you can’t, remember those times that you slew those dragons, wrestled with those demons and you still came out victorious. Those thoughts will give you the encouragement and that little injection of empowerment that you need to keep pushing through.
The problem is not the problem. It is your attitude about the problem that is the problem.
Yes, I meant to rhyme there. That heading sure is a mouthful. You essentially attract the energy that you put out. Fretting, fussing, cussing, frustration only attracts more things for you to get upset about . Be the one that looks for the solutions in times of crisis and not the one that runs and panics . The world isn’t ending the sky isn’t falling . What you envision as the outcome is what you will get . Try to focus your energy not on the size of the issue or the seemingly tragic outcome , instead focus on how you can and will overcome it .
So maybe you want this one thing and you sat and you pictured it and you worked hard and still no results. What now? Do you give up or keep going ? in life, nothing rarely ever happens exactly how or when we want it to. When you make peace with that simple yet sometimes quite difficult fact; then you are halfway on the path to your dreams. We all get frustrated. we all want what we want and we want it now. I personally want to work four-hour days and retire at 40 and sip margaritas while laying on exotic beaches. We all have our dreams and aspirations. You will get what you want or maybe not. You will get something better. Life has a way of giving us what we need. Hold that vision and trust the process.
Sometimes when you think you can’t. You shouldn’t.
Have you ever had so much to do that you literally do not know where to start? I am the type of person that procrastinates when I have a lot to do. After the procrastination then comes panic and me wondering what I was thinking I committed to all this ‘stuff’ in the first place. You really cannot be everything to everyone. You really cannot keep going and giving and doing like the energiser bunny. He has unlimited reserves, you do not. Next time you feel like you can’t. Examine where you place your energy What and who you give your attention to. Pay attention to your body, your emotions. Have you been taking care of yourself as you should? Sometimes we just need to pause, declutter our mind, body and soul, Reevaluate our goals and most importantly; learn to say no to all the things that make us feel like crap. Just be with yourself. Recharge and rest. Always listen to your instincts they never ever lead you down the wrong path. Be kind to yourself always. Speak lovingly to and of yourself and turn that no I can’t intoYES I WILL.
Thoughts become things So what do you believe in? Do you listen to that little nag in your head that says ”You can’t do it ” or are you going to listen to that inner voice that screams Everything that you wanted can be yours You are doing your best. I am going to win.

YouTube is such a wonderful space. I get lost there on several occasions. Don’t you? In fact, it is one of my main sources of inspiration. Check out my favourite channels that I visit for a little pick me up, advice and motivation.
My list would not be complete without this channel. I remember one night my mind was feeling so full I could barely concentrate. Something just told me to try meditation and I ended up on this channel. She had me at bliss in four minutes. Don’t think you have the patience for meditation. Trust me if I can do it anyone can. On this channel, she also covers exercise and total body health. Basically, it caters to your mind-body and spirit.
Yoga is one of my best-loved activities for balance and overall well-being. Never tried it: well check out this post to learn about all the benefits of yoga.I think everyone already knows about this channel but I had to include it. She has yoga for every mood, purpose and ailment, She also incorporates the use of affirmations and mantras. Her videos just leave me feeling oh so good.

A reason, A season, A lesson, A blessing. Everything in life falls into these four categories, sometimes we have a cocktail of them all because what would life be if we did not have a shake-up once in a while? DO you believe in everything for a reason? Sometimes I have the unshakeable faith that everything will work out on other days I want to stay in bed and binge-watch my life away. How can we justify everything for a reason when the reasons seemingly make no sense. We are not here to judge life or fix it we are here to live it. Sometimes all we can do just live; especially when we consider that most of it is out of our control. We make mistakes.fall down, get up or just lie there. The reactions and your attitude really are all up to you. The time is going to pass anyway so make the best ofit. The most imperfect and dysfunctional moments often make the best stories.
What season are you currently in? An endless winter, a hot summer burn? Or is it hurricane season with no sunshine in sight? Whatever experiences you are having at this moment know that they are essential for your growth. Without challenges, without loss, we would never learn how to appreciate anything at all. Everyone and everything that you encounter has something to teach you. You may not get the lesson right away but the pieces of the puzzle always fall into place somehow. One day you will just have one of those aha moments and you will go…so that is why it happened that way. I had to go through this to get to this point. When you look back on all the things that made you sad, angry or crazy you will be stronger for it .
Remember if you aren’t learning you aren’t growing. Three years ago, after a fairly tumultuous relationship; I have to admit I was a sad and bitter mess. I looked in the mirror and literally wondered who was this staring back me. There had to be more to life than this pain because when you really and truly immerse yourself in another human being , the separation is so gut-wrenching. We have all been through it. It literally feels like it bruises your soul. Thoughts of what if and blame and guilt and all those emotions that typically I really do not want to deal with. Today I can look back on it and accept the lesson . It is no longer a bitter nasty pill for me to swallow but it taught me resilience and how to forgive. ( I also do not feel like setting his stuff on fire anymore).It took me such a long time not to take the actions of others personally. People will act how they act and they do what they do.At the end of the day, we are all trying to do our best. My part in it all is not to retaliate or react. I refuse to let anything threaten my peace. Karma is a mirror and I want nothing but good things coming back at me. Not everything you lose is a loss, you take the experiences as opportunities for growth. Look at yourself today, right this every minute at how far you have come, how much you have been through and you are still standing and dare I say you are pretty awesome too! Don’t get bitter, get better . Turn all of that fiery energy into something good. Make it work for you.

Are you clothed?Are you loved? Then really you have all you need at this moment.Life is all about being in the now. Now is after all the only moment we have. Make today a day of appreciation. It can’t always be sunshine and rainbows but you can always find the strength and the wisdom to value all of the good that you have in your life. In a world full of dark clouds be a ray of sunshine. Some days you have to dig deep but always remain steadfast and find the light.
