At the beginning of the year, I embarked on a 30-day yoga challenge entitled Dedicate and hosted by Yoga With Adriene. Well, I stuck to it and I completed every single downward dog and even those moves that tested my patience balance and flexibility. It was just supposed to be yoga but it turned out to be a total mind-body experience. I felt stronger and more balanced than I have in a very long time.
It is not about mastering the pose as Adriene says it is about finding what feels good. Isn’t that what life is about? The ups and downs the trials and errors. Ultimately we go through everything to get to a place that feels like home and live a life that we love. Here are three life lessons or realizations I had during my 30 days of yoga.
DON’T FORCE – FLOW
We all have had things that we plan, pour all of our efforts into and despite our best attempt at perfection, life happens and it basically goes in whatever direction it wants to. I have had moments where I have tried to nail a pose and fall flat on my ass. The obvious reaction would be to get pissed but all I did was laugh it off and go again. Simply put, you are supposed to get back up. Your pose is not supposed to look like your partner, your neighbors or Sally down the street. Just because you fall it does not make you a failure. It makes no sense trying to accomplish anything by force. If something is not working adjust to accommodate the pose (circumstance). It is useless to fight the flow and end up hurting yourself in the process. If anything yoga teaches you perseverance and the value of knowing what fits you. Do not fear looking awkward or be scared to do it your own way. Your life =your unique flow.
Life is about experiencing joy. DISCOVER WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL GOOD
It seems pretty convenient for us to dwell on the mishaps and the fuck-ups and the what could have been. Often times we cling to places or people that we have outgrown. We repeatedly keep trying things that we know deep down have absolutely no benefit to our mind, bodies or souls. Do you want to go through life being sad sack Susie or amazing Amanda? You know the type of person who is willing to put in the work and make your life better and discover what makes you absolutely tingle with delight. We can berate ourselves, belittle our efforts and become our own worst enemy or worse yet work and give until we are at the brink of exhaustion or burnout. Yoga has reinforced the importance of not putting myself in positions that are detrimental to my well being, and even if you do there is always a way back to recovery. We really should focus on and revel in the things that make us feel sweet. The things that make us feel beautiful and worthy and bubbly. You know those things that give you that extra oomph even on the days when you feel more like a dud and less like a goddess. It does not have to be anything grandiose. We tend to get caught up in doing the awe-inspiring social media worthy stuff we lose sight of how the simplest of things can ignite bliss. Finding what feels good is knowing that even when things are difficult and chaotic you can discover ways to center yourself and realize that whatever you are experiencing is just temporary. Look for ways to as the song says to accentuate the positive. ( tell me you didn’t just break out into song reading that, I did 🙂 ) There are days when you will feel defeated, frustrated and downright disgusted but know this, you do not have to dwell there.
Don’t forget to BREATHE.
Taking a breath is such a blessing. It means we are alive, yet so often we take these limited breaths we have been given for granted. In yoga, as in life, we need our breath to guide us through those difficult moments. Those of us who suffer from anxiety can attest to how just simply breathing can make a significant difference between going from a place of nervousness to calm. Don’t get bogged down by the overwhelm of to-do lists and the ridiculous and impossible pressure of having to get everything right. Take time for yourself, take time to breathe, to make space. Breathe, release and let go of the tension. Do it one time, do it several times just do whatever it takes to get you to a place of serenity.
It is now month number five . Day 121 of 365. How are you feeling? Hopefully, you are still as optimistic as when this year began. Know that you can dedicate time to yourself no matter how ”busy ” you are. Time to simply breathe, take a break or start over. Fresh starts are everyday sort of thing, an every minute kind of thing. Dedicate your efforts to creating the life that you truly want. Yoga is not all about striking the perfect pose. Life is not about filters and capturing only those moments in which we shine or appear to. We all want to do and be our best but there is not a damn thing wrong with accepting your imperfections and your so-called mess. It does not matter what your pose looks like to anyone else as long as you are happy. You are and will always be your most meaningful and longest commitment.
How has this year been for you so far?
Mondays are the beginning. No matter where we are in life we have a chance to begin again. When we go through those tough times we often forget how resilient we are. We often forget that there is hope as long as there is life. I write this for myself as much I write for others. The troubles pass, the days get easier. Never forget life is a gift. Never forget Life is beautiful.
This is your reminder that everything will be alright
The signs may say different but there is no need to fight
The process, the present circumstances may not be ideal
There is never a trial without a lesson, a blessing an opportunity to heal
This is your reminder that everything will be alright
It is just a moment, they always pass
Stay grounded in the present the upheaval never lasts
There is no need to fight the process,
You are on the path to progress just you wait and see
You may not like it, you may not love it but you are exactly where you need to be
Like the dragonfly, the transformation will be inspiring
Stay open to every possibility, these growing pains mean nothing
It is all going to come together just you wait and see
You may not love it, you may not like it but you are exactly where you need to be.
How do you get through the tough times? What is your favorite way to stay motivated?
YouTube is such a wonderful space. I get lost there on several occasions. Don’t you? In fact, it is one of my main sources of inspiration. Check out my favourite channels that I visit for a little pick me up, advice and motivation.
Need help manifesting? Need a reminder of how awesome you are? Then this is the channel for you. Here is your reminder that you create your own reality.
There is so much positivity packed into this one space. Mediations, pep talks, motivation and so much more.
This channel is one of my many nighttime sleep aids. It isn’t just for night-time though. Anytime you get a bout of monkey mind and your brain needs a rest you can find something here to serve you.

My list would not be complete without this channel. I remember one night my mind was feeling so full I could barely concentrate. Something just told me to try meditation and I ended up on this channel. She had me at bliss in four minutes. Don’t think you have the patience for meditation. Trust me if I can do it anyone can. On this channel, she also covers exercise and total body health. Basically, it caters to your mind-body and spirit.
Yoga is one of my best-loved activities for balance and overall well-being. Never tried it: well check out this post to learn about all the benefits of yoga. I think everyone already knows about this channel but I had to include it. She has yoga for every mood, purpose and ailment, She also incorporates the use of affirmations and mantras. Her videos just leave me feeling oh so good.

A reason, A season, A lesson, A blessing. Everything in life falls into these four categories, sometimes we have a cocktail of them all because what would life be if we did not have a shake-up once in a while?
DO you believe in everything for a reason? Sometimes I have the unshakeable faith that everything will work out on other days I want to stay in bed and binge-watch my life away. How can we justify everything for a reason when the reasons seemingly make no sense. We are not here to judge life or fix it we are here to live it. Sometimes all we can do just live; especially when we consider that most of it is out of our control. We make mistakes.fall down, get up or just lie there. The reactions and your attitude really are all up to you. The time is going to pass anyway so make the best of it. The most imperfect and dysfunctional moments often make the best stories.
What season are you currently in? An endless winter, a hot summer burn? Or is it hurricane season with no sunshine in sight? Whatever experiences you are having at this moment know that they are essential for your growth. Without challenges, without loss, we would never learn how to appreciate anything at all. Everyone and everything that you encounter has something to teach you. You may not get the lesson right away but the pieces of the puzzle always fall into place somehow. One day you will just have one of those aha moments and you will go…so that is why it happened that way. I had to go through this to get to this point. When you look back on all the things that made you sad, angry or crazy you will be stronger for it .
Remember if you aren’t learning you aren’t growing. Three years ago, after a fairly tumultuous relationship; I have to admit I was a sad and bitter mess. I looked in the mirror and literally wondered who was this staring back me. There had to be more to life than this pain because when you really and truly immerse yourself in another human being , the separation is so gut-wrenching. We have all been through it. It literally feels like it bruises your soul. Thoughts of what if and blame and guilt and all those emotions that typically I really do not want to deal with. Today I can look back on it and accept the lesson . It is no longer a bitter nasty pill for me to swallow but it taught me resilience and how to forgive. ( I also do not feel like setting his stuff on fire anymore). It took me such a long time not to take the actions of others personally. People will act how they act and they do what they do.At the end of the day, we are all trying to do our best. My part in it all is not to retaliate or react. I refuse to let anything threaten my peace. Karma is a mirror and I want nothing but good things coming back at me. Not everything you lose is a loss, you take the experiences as opportunities for growth. Look at yourself today, right this every minute at how far you have come, how much you have been through and you are still standing and dare I say you are pretty awesome too! Don’t get bitter, get better . Turn all of that fiery energy into something good. Make it work for you.
How do you view life? Is it a blessing or the bitch that stole your joy? Let’s put things in perspective with a simple checklist. Put your hand to your heart and feel it beating, are your breathing? Are you clothed? Are you loved? Then really you have all you need at this moment.Life is all about being in the now. Now is after all the only moment we have. Make today a day of appreciation. It can’t always be sunshine and rainbows but you can always find the strength and the wisdom to value all of the good that you have in your life. In a world full of dark clouds be a ray of sunshine. Some days you have to dig deep but always remain steadfast and find the light.
If it does not fit don’t force it
Let it flow, set it free
In this life, you can never lose or fail
Just look within you will find everything you need
It is never to late to be reborn, reinvent, write a new story
Don’t fuel the fire of worry,
Your happiness was never meant to buried, snuffed out by these burdens
Life is a learning curve, a work in progress don’t ignore the lessons
Regroup, reflect, shake it off
When you feel like giving up
Put on those big girl panties and as they say, try, try again.

How do you deal with life challenges? Do you have a favourite quote or mantra that gets you through the tough times?
Share with us in the comments and remember YOU ARE ENOUGH.
Beautiful and Blessed
Too dope to be stressed
These ”problems ” do not define you
These are not yours to carry
Those who think you are unworthy, that is all at them
Don’t let them determine your levels of happy
It may feel off-balance, out of whack
Shit may feel heavy
It is just a temporary test
A lesson learned
What you have lost cannot compare the bounty that is forthcoming
Better days are ahead
Just trust and believe.

Life requires an agile approach. You have to be flexible and adaptable to maneuver those sharp turns and the rocky roads that you end up on sometimes. Change is like a river ever flowing. You will find yourself lost if you go against the tide.
Always make peace with your current situation. Remember no situation is infinite. Open your mind to all possibilities. Being overly rigid will only break you down and leave you feeling defeated. Remember to always keep moving.
Express gratitude for everything. No matter how simple. Oftentimes we have so much more than we realize because we are too busy focusing on what is missing instead of all the great things we have within our reach. Never lose sight of or take for granted all of the value that there is in your life.
Embrace the quirky imperfect being that you are. You are enough. The world needs you; not some carbon copy or a cheap imitation of who the world pressures you to be. Do not be defined by your possessions, your social status or your appearance all of that in the grand scheme of things is quite frivolous really. Work on feeding your soul, getting to know yourself so well to a point where nothing can shake you. You are a divine being. It is difficult but just drown out all of that external noise.
Live and Do All Things With Love
Some days it feels like we are merely existing as we are heavy laden with the hectic nature of modern-day life. Time is limited. There is fun to be had and memories to be made. Sometimes you just have to go with your gut. Do whatever your heart desires as long as it brings you happiness. It’s your story. No one has the right to tell you that you are doing it wrong . Screw the rules. There is no manual on how to experience life. Unpleasant moments and dubious decisions do not amount to a bad life. Don’t doubt yourself you are doing just fine.
Expand your mind.
Educate yourself. I am not just referring to studying here. Ask questions. Read. Explore. Do not just blindly follow what you have been told. Question the status quo. The world needs more independent thinkers. Immerse yourself in new cultures and unique experiences. When you learn more about others you will be less judgemental and more tolerant of someone who does not look, dress or act like you.
Your current situation is never your final destination.
Dare to live a life bountiful full of peace, love, and hope. There won’t always be rainbows and sunshine but whenever you can, however, you can call in the good.
Searching for fulfillment in bags, shoes, and clothes she always came up empty
Always feeling less than whole she craved someone to love her completely
Searching, looking externally to be fulfilled
Vacant, soulless what was the purpose of the mundanity?
The temporal was devoid of any divinity or was it?
Ravenous for a soulful treat
To tantalize, mesmerize
To satiate the undying need for the extraordinary
To feel as wild and unbridled as the tempestuous seas
To be a masterpiece akin to all the colors of the rainbow
Hot passionate and robust
Refreshed energy, she finally dared to feel alive
She was everything it just took her a while to realize
She would bend but never break
Nourish and delight her soul and live a life of her own design

Repeated sequences of numbers
There are messages everywhere if you just quiet the mind and listen
The stars align
It suddenly all makes sense
Not one reservation
Walking solely by faith
Nothing can go wrong
Resolve firmly planted
Guided by heart and intuition
Take the leap forward to reveal your purpose
Fear is no longer an option

As my end of the year seems to spiral into the abyss of failed plans and disappointments I look forward to tomorrow with hope.
Who needs a new year for a fresh start?
I am usually a very zen tachi , However this week I have been more like the hulk and wanted to just smash every shit. I swear my levels of crazy are off the charts.
I could blame the full moon or mercury retrograde but I know my moods are all me.
Sometimes I forget the simple basic principles that I have striven to live by for the past year and a half. I plan to do an end of year meditation. Write down what I want to manifest. (Dreams always seem more realistic when you put them in writing ) Bathe myself in positivity or several shots of something strong and pretty and dig through the slight emotional and financial hot mess that was my 2017.
What is it about self-reflection that throws me into a tailspin. I am pretty fond of ignoring stuff till it spirals out of control and then I have an anxiety attack and bawl my eyes out about how crazy my life is.
Very mature Tachira .very ……
Us Libras are some real drama queens. Thanks for putting up with me while I ramble. Last year I set a few goals, most I reached others well pfft there is always tomorrow. Says the devil that is procrastination. Really my year was not that bad. I was just really hoping to win the lottery and buy my own private island alas no such luck.
I plan to usher in the year on a positive note so I decided to share some of my plans with you to make a fresh start.
Recharge my energy
I like to kick off the new year off with a bit of a spiritual detox. My preferred way to do this is with a new beginnings meditation. Nothing quite like letting go of all the mental clutter and refreshing your thoughts in preparation for new ideas, dreams, and aspirations.
Declutter And Get Organized
Am I the only one who feels a few pounds lighter when I throw away old stuff or cut off toxic people? Something about having too much stuff; too many emails, unnecessary contacts just leaves me feeling drained. So I will start a social detox. Delete those old numbers, organize my inbox, throw away the old junk and make space for all the good that is coming my way.
Get My financials In Order
I think we all at some point have a sticky love-hate relationship with money. You may be like me a bit of a shopaholic( my friends say I need rehab and I said no, no, no). The thought of budgeting and saving always just seems like such a dry and boring topic. It, however, is a necessity if you are starting on a journey to financial freedom. No one wants to live paycheck to paycheck and feel deprived their entire life. I plan to examine :
How I can curb/cut my spending.
Find a savings plan and budget that I can actually stick to and that is effective
Create multiple streams of income (anything short of selling drugs )
Spend less than I make but damn the shoes are always so cute
Learn about investing
Learn Something New And Do More of What I Love
I absolutely love to delve into new topics and try new things. I will give some of these free online courses a try to aid me in learning a new skill. Most importantly,I will invest money into a course.I have always been dying to take up photography but I always complain some courses are too expensive. If I can spend on bags and shoes then paying for a course to discover what could possibly a new love isn’t too much to ask of myself. I get so caught up in the everyday drudgery I find it hard to make time to do simple things I love like yoga, coloring and generally playful stuff that makes my heart flutter. No more damn excuses. No time like the present.
Be My Own Best Friend
Do you remember that song line that goes It’s no surprise to me I am my own worst enemy ? How many times had you let the needs of others supersede your own, said yes when you meant no or tolerated less than stellar treatment from a loved one or co-worker? Kick Disrespect to the curb. It’s time to reclaim my peace of mind. Eat better, Worry less . Pamper my mind, body, and soul. I will look myself in the mirror and say I love you as I embrace every quirky awkward part of myself. Nip negative thinking in the bud by looking at the positive.
This year has been one crazy ride but guess what I would not do anything differently. Life isn’t about getting it right all the time or holding on to the past so tightly it crushes all your hopes for the future. Slam that door on whoever and whatever did you wrong .Celebrate what went right. Remember to be here now because now is really all you ever have. Whatever you do in this life makes sure it makes you happy and you can look back and smile. A life without love, happiness and joy will sure be one empty life. Isn’t being happy and spreading joy what life really is about?
What are your plans for New Year’s Eve and what do you want to manifest in 2018?Comment below I love hearing from you.
Love and Blessings and Happy New Year. Let’s slay together 🙂
