When we are tired, stressed and generally off balance we cannot serve those that we cherish the most. Never forget you deserve alone time, you deserve to be pampered. The relationship you have with yourself is the core for every other connection that you have and will have in your life. This brought the question to mind what does self-love mean to you.? I asked a few of the wonderful and inspiring women that I know and these were their responses. This month this day and every day. Feel the love, spread love and be the love that you desire.

Self Love to me is something that I am still learning. But part of it would be accepting the wrongs in my life that have happened and learning and growing from it. Not allowing negative energy to affect you and also noticing when unwanted energy is around and not compromising your vibe to accommodate theirs.

I believe it also involves taking time for yourself to refocus and indulge oneself. Doing what you love is also an integral part of self-love. Settling for whatever is there or available is not. I remember this job I had where my co-worker and I were talking about doing things we love and she said the job was her bread and butter so I said you know I don’t want bread and butter what I want are waffles and sausages with a glass of Oj. My idea of self-love is making decisions that make you comfortable and being at peace with whatever you do. There is a sense of freedom associated with it. Happiness is a state of being, it is dynamic, however, if we are comfortable there are more happy moments. This will extend to all parts of my life because I am a work in progress -Nicole

I decided to do a 14-day self -love challenge because I think we all need something to inspire us each and every day. These suggestions are by no means anything new but they serve as a reminder to be kind yourself so you can be kind to others. Do not feel guilty for saying no; for not feeling like it or for indulging because life is meant to be savored and enjoyed. Go ahead spoil yourself in the most simple ways or spectacular ways this and every month . These can be done in any order you like. Sometimes we just need a break and few moments to reset and remember how fabulously divine we truly are.

 

 

DAY ONE -Self Love Meditation. If mediation isn’t your thing try some self-love affirmations or a self-love prayer
DAY TWO- Self Love Yoga
DAY THREE -Take a nature walk
DAY FOUR – Take yourself on a date
DAY FIVE – Buy yourself flowers or chocolate
DAY SIX – Look into the mirror admire your beauty and say I LOVE YOU
DAY SEVEN- Make a list of 14 things you love about yourself . Get creative and make this a mini craft project.
DAY EIGHT -Treat yourself to your favorite beauty treatment
DAY NINE – Sleep in and have breakfast in bed
DAY TEN -Make time to read something romantic or inspiring
DAY ELEVEN -Start a birthday fund so you can splurge on your birthday
DAY TWELVE -Have impromptu dance session
DAY THIRTEEN -Write yourself a love letter
DAY FOURTEEN -Forgive yourself for your past mistakes and know that missteps only make you better and stronger.

I can honestly say that October has been quite a bittersweet month for me. It started with birthday celebrations for myself and one of my fave co-workers; that was definitely the high point. It also has been ripe with financial mishaps, tons of work stress and various other happenings that would make a really juicy telenovela…Life.

Let’s just say that I have not been my most vibrant, positive self. I am often disappointed that I am not Wonder Woman and as a result, I can’t fix all the problems of the world. Is that a trait of all mothers or just my overly obsessive Scorpio moon tendencies? (p.s I am an astrology nut) . She is a badass, she has it all handled. I do on most days; on others as my nearest and dearest would agree I am a mess. We all are in some way, aren’t we? I openly embrace my messy; it is what makes us unique.

 Rediscovering Gratitude- Day One 

Gratitude is such a simple and often overlooked concept. We seem to find it easier to focus on the drama and all that is going wrong; instead of just simply giving thanks for the good stuff. Trust me, even when everything appears to be shit there is always some tiny spark of light somewhere . You just have to look. I created a gratitude jar because I love anything simple and crafty. I found an old mason jar in the kitchen cupboard. I decorated it with a few stickers and started On October 30th. I plan to write one thing I am grateful for every day until the end of the year. I also incorporated day 2 of the 20 Day mental health challenge which asked us to journal 10 things we are grateful for and I dropped those in the jar as well .i find myself complaining a lot lately. I saw this as the perfect opportunity to shift focus to all the good things I have and all of the awesome people I am surrounded by.

 Giving Your Words power by using I am affirmations- Day Two

The words you speak shape your life. How do you perceive yourself? What are your strengths? Do you believe that you are fabulous and capable of any and everything you desire?  Day two encouraged me to envision and reinforce all the things I am and that I want to become. I used this as an opportunity to redefine my purpose and to celebrate the beauty of being a flawless yet divine being. It is a basic principle of life what you say and think   you eventually become. We are often so discouraged and frustrated by the events of life we forget our power. Being the former art student that I am I took out my sketchbook and used this one as an excuse to draw. I pretty much wrote whatever came to mind. Lucy asked us to draft 10 affirmations and here are mine.

 Mediation Is The Medication- Day Three 

 

Mediation has been a part of my daily routine for approximately three years now. It is one of my favourite tools to calm the crazy I got started with and still am in love with guided meditations. Guided meditations are probably the only time that I can follow instructions or appreciate someone telling me what to do.

 Building Confidence- Day Four 

Learn to love and appreciate your abilities; that is the meaning of confidence. We all doubt ourselves and even the most solid and grounded of us have those moments where we feel less than confident. Lucy suggested visualizing every day and I totally endorse that. Visualize yourself as confident and living the life you desire. Visualizing helps me stay focused on my goals even when circumstances are less than ideal.

 Crafting A Morning Routine- Day Five 

 Start the day on a positive note so that whatever transpires throughout the day can not really phase you. Wake up and do something you love, think happy thoughts. Listen to something that stirs your very soul. Get moving. Pray. Meditate. Make love. Whatever gets you feeling in touch with your soul. I long for a morning routine that does not involve me cursing my alarm and wishing it was Saturday. The morning routine that I strive for is a ten min meditation, ten minutes of yoga and listening to a ten-minute motivational track. For days when life does not go as planned; I downloaded some affirmation tracks on my phone to listen to during my walk to work. I find that at least one or a combination of these gets me in the right frame of mind to start the day.

 This challenge was a breath of fresh air. The main thing that it taught me is that I have to be consistent. The journey to inner peace and balance is a continuous one and although life can get tricky we must continue to do the things that bring us joy and spark our spirits. Five Simple Ways To Get That Summer Glow

It is officially summer. Well, to be honest, it is always summer here in Barbados. There are no seasons unless you count the hurricane season as a season. Around the months of June until August it just gets hotter. I mean so hot you just want to lie on the beach with a cocktail hot.
Today I decided to treat myself head to toe. My inner goddess is just screaming for her glow to be refreshed. During these hot months, we typically show a little more skin, cut loose and let’s be honest the sun takes a toll on our skin and our bodies.
Here are a few simple recipes you can use to get your glow up this summer.

When it gets hot ,  Hydrate. Hydrate. Hydrate. Nothing saps your energy and leaves you feeling as dull and listless as a dried coconut like lack of water. Infused waters are indeed nothing new. My go-to is lemon water. Lately, I love lemon and orange . It kind of reminds me of lemonade without the sweetness. If you do get bored with this combo you can always add some chia seeds, watermelon, mint anything that gives it a bit of a twist and can excite your palate a bit. Cut your fruits up and leave them with water in the fridge for four hours or overnight. Mix it up. Spice it up. Combine fruits and veggies whatever suits your fancy. Hydration is key to keep your body functioning at its peak. Since I am an island dweller I also love a good tall glass of coconut water 🙂

A mini vacation for your feet

Epsom salts soothe tired feet
Warm water
And a few drops of your favourite essential oil
Soak for 10-20 minutes. Grab a book. Listen to meditation track. Relax and feel the stress leaving your body.

I used sea salt as I love the texture of it to slough off those dead skin cells. It also is such a great detoxifier. The result: baby soft hands and feet. Smooth and inviting.

Pick Me Up Body Scrub 

I do not know about you guys but just the smell of coffee gets me fired up. I think I may be an addict. Who really can go wrong with coffee in your cup and coffee in your shower. Coffee is not only a pick me up but it’s great for dry skin, cellulite and stretch marks. It will keep your bum perfectly polished for all of those hot summer bikini sessions. It also smells and feels great too. I love brown sugar for its coarser texture but the mixture is really up to you. You can add or subtract ingredients depending on your personal preference.

Detox Face Mask 

This is the recipe I use every Sunday as I lounge around with my cup of coffee. I have been using the Aztec healing clay for years now and I just love the results it gives. if you have not heard about it by now get yourself a jar. You won’t be disappointed. I just love the pulsing feeling it gives. I think I can literally feel it dragging the goop out of my pores.

Sometimes, we all have our weak moments. You guys can relate I am sure, You know the ones where you get down on yourself because you think maybe, just maybe you are falling behind or your life is not going according to your best-laid plans. I came up with this one after a meditation. I totally love when inspiration hits me from nowhere.  This is a reminder for myself as well as anyone who needs it. You are a precious gift to this world. Never forget to .. Cherish yourself, take care of your inner needs and take exquisite care of yourself.
